The QR invoice, successor to payment slips in Switzerland

Since October 2022, the orange and red payment slips have been withdrawn from circulation in Switzerland. The QR invoice has become the only bank-transfer payment standard accepted by Swiss banks. It brings the invoice and the payment slip together in a single document: the Swiss QR Code printed in the payment section contains everything needed for an error-free transfer.

What the Swiss QR Code contains

The Swiss QR Code encodes several categories of information: the beneficiary’s details, their Swiss IBAN (CH or LI prefix), the amount and currency (CHF or EUR), the payment message and a traceable reference number. When your customer scans the code from their e-banking, all of this data is imported automatically into the transfer form, with no manual entry.

The QR invoice has been mandatory in Switzerland since October 2022: what that means

Since 1 October 2022, the classic payment slips are no longer accepted by Swiss banks. Any business that issues invoices with a payment section must use the QR invoice. There’s no legal obligation to attach a payment slip, but using the Swiss QR Code is now the standard your customers and business partners in Switzerland expect.
