How to enable the SEPA payment QR code (EPC) with Toolcie

The SEPA payment QR code (EPC) lets your clients pay an invoice by simply scanning the code with their banking app, without retyping the IBAN, reference, or amount.

Automatic or manual activation depending on your country

In countries where banking-app support is already high, such as Belgium, the QR code is displayed automatically as soon as a payment method is set up with an eligible IBAN. It then appears directly on your new invoices.

In other countries, support still varies from one bank to another, so the option is not enabled by default — even though several neobanks already support it. You can turn it on manually in a few clicks.

How to enable the QR code

There are two ways to enable the payment QR code:

  1. From “Settings > Payment methods”, edit the payment method, then in the “Bank transfer” section, check “Display a payment QR code on invoices”.
  2. From an invoice in edit mode, click on the payment information to open the window for editing or creating a payment method, then check the same box.

The setting applies at the payment method level: it is captured on each invoice when it is finalized. In draft mode (document not finalized), a sample QR code is shown with the note “The final QR code will be generated when the document is finalized.” Once the invoice is finalized (downloading the PDF, printing, or sharing), the final QR code is generated automatically.

Supplier invoices

If you use electronic invoicing in France or Belgium, the payment QR code appears automatically on your received supplier invoices as soon as the supplier has provided the IBAN and the amount due. There is nothing to enable on your side — simply scan the code with your banking app to pay your supplier quickly.

If the QR code does not appear

If the QR code does not appear on your invoice, check the following:

  • “Display a payment QR code on invoices” is checked on the payment method used
  • your IBAN belongs to a SEPA-zone country
  • the invoice currency is euro
  • your invoice is not a credit note
